The WPGA’s largest championship for Net players — designed to invite participants of varying skillsets into competitive play — the 9th WPGA Net and Women’s Net Championships, is set for Tuesday at Chartiers Country Club.

Started in 2017, the WPGA Net and Women’s Net Championships have become a favorite in the West Penn golf schedule, as players compete against similar caliber opponents based on Handicap Index® in four different flights.

The competition format is 18 holes of Net Stableford Stroke Play. Flights, with affiliated handicap indexes, are set as follows:

 • John Moorhead Jr. Flight: 5.5 to 8.5
 • Joseph Oliver Flight: 8.6 to 12.9
 • Joseph Shea Flight: 13.0 to 25.0
 • Jeannette Nicholson Price Flight (Women’s): 5.5 and up

A year ago, at Cranberry Highlands Golf Course, Matthew Gates claimed the John Moorhead Jr. Flight with 41 Stableford points. Robert Blumling also had 41 points to secure a win in the Joseph Oliver Flight, while Anthony Araujo’s 38 points earned him the Joseph Shea Flight.

The overall winner, receiving the Richard Falchetti Trophy, was Gates, a member at Cranberry Highlands.

The women’s division was won by Nancy Haynes, who recorded 36 Stableford points to top Davis Boyd.

Blumling, Araujo and Haynes will all be in the field Tuesday.

The WPGA will welcome a total of 82 golfers to Chartiers Country Club, including local radio personality Chris Mueller of 93.7 The Fan and Going Low, who will be the first player to tee off Tuesday morning.

Play begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday with tee times ending at 12:30 p.m.
