LATROBE — A September tradition continues Thursday in Latrobe, as top WPGA amateur golfers face Tri-State Section, PGA of America professionals in the 30th Palmer Cup Matches.

Each team, including the WPGA’s Frank B. Fuhrer Jr. Team, consists of ten players and four senior players, with the WPGA’s team made up of amateurs and the Tri-State’s team consisting of professionals.

“The Palmer Cup is always a privilege to make,” said Darin Kowalski, who won Tuesday’s 40th WPGA Mid-Amateur Championships and will represent Team WPGA Thursday. “We (amateurs) try to beat each other's heads in all summer, and to finally play on a team, with a tradition like the Palmer Cup, it's a privilege. I’m lucky to be able to do it. I'm genuinely looking forward to Thursday.”

The event, hosted by Latrobe Country Club since 1996, will feature 36 holes of match play with four-ball matches in the morning followed by singles matches in the afternoon. The senior amateurs in the field will each play just one singles match, which will take place in the afternoon.

The WPGA’s lineup will be Matt Barto, Ryan Costello, Bob Crnjarich, Arnie Cutrell, Amani D’Ambrosio, Kevin Fajt, Ted Grassi, Scott Jordan, Scott Kemmler, Carson Kitsley, Darin Kowalski, Nathan Piatt, Jon Pratkanis and Michael Quallich.

The Tri-State's team will be Easton Renwick, Talon Kriebel, Kevin Shield, John Aber, Shawn McCall, Lucas Cromeenes, Devin Gee, Alex Aulerich, Justin Collins, Brett Carman, Frank Blazewick, Joe Boros, Eddie Perrino and Tony Traci.

A year ago, Team WPGA captured its second straight victory in the Palmer Cup with a 9.5-7.5 triumph. That followed a 10-7 win for the amateurs in 2023 — the Association’s first win in five years.

The Tri-State professionals are 19-8-2 all-time against the WPGA amateurs in the event that pays tribute to one of the game’s greatest figures in Arnold Palmer.
