Indiana to host C.R. Miller and Girls Match Play Invitationals this week

INDIANA, PA — Indiana Country Club will welcome junior boys and girls golfers Monday and Tuesday for the 51st WPGA C.R. Miller Memorial Match Play and Sixth WPGA Girls' Match Play Invitationals.
The invitational events feature top-ranked junior golfers from Western Pennsylvania.
The C.R. Miller event begins with the Round of 16 Monday morning, followed by Quarterfinals Monday afternoon. Semifinals and Championship matches will be contested Tuesday morning and afternoon. Each round will consist of 18 holes of match play.
The Girls' Match Play Invitational will follow a similar format, but will begin at the Quarterfinal stage Monday afternoon.
The C.R. Miller has a rich history in the region. 51 years ago, Ritchie Miller established a match play competition for local junior golf players as a way of honoring his father, Charles R. Miller.
Now, more than five decades later, the C.R. Miller Memorial Match Play Invitational has become one of Western Pennsylvania’s marquee events for top junior players.
Monday, the competition heads to Indiana for the second time ever, and second time in three years. It will also host the 6th WPGA Girls Match Play Invitational concurrently.
Through the years, many of the top players in the region have competed for — and won — the C.R. Miller Memorial.
Most notably, recent Notre Dame graduate Palmer Jackson won the event three times, becoming the only player to do so. But Jackson is far from alone when it comes to premier plays to win the C.R. Miller.
Before winning four U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships and the Inaugural U.S. Four-Ball Championship, Nathan Smith took home the C.R. Miller title in 1995 at Allegheny Country Club. Justin Smith, prior to playing at and becoming the head coach at the University of Minnesota and earning a spot in the school’s Hall of Fame, won the Pressly T. Craig Bowl in 1998.
A year ago, David Fuhrer sunk a 15-foot putt on the fifth playoff hole of the championship round, topping Michael Quallich to claim his first C.R. Miller title and become the third member of his family to win the long-running competition.
Fuhrer is now playing at George Mason. Quallich, this year’s WPGA Junior champion, will receive the top seed in the C.R. Miller Monday.
Participants in the C.R. Miller Match Play will be Aaron Didjunas, Alex Talmadge, Bailey Donahue, Barron Bitar, Connor McKenzie, Griffin Hansberry, Jack Sacriponte, Max Mottura, Quallich, Nico Ward, Ravi Desai, Rocco Bautti, Ryan Bell, Sam Bishop, Ty Hartman and William Hilton.
Started in 2018, the WPGA Girls' Match Play Invitational has brought together some of the top junior girls talent in the region for match play.
In 2024, Grace Windfelder defeated Mya Morgan in the final round of the Girls' Match Play to take home her first title.
This year, the Girls' Match Play field will feature eight players, including Morgan — the defending WPGA Junior Girls Player of the Year — who will receive the top seed.
Abigail Freyvogel, Adalena Robb, Clara Koteski, Sophia Severns, Morgan Montverde, Olivia DeGori and Ava Calandra will round out the field.
