GREENSBURG — A large field will compete at Totteridge Golf Course Monday in hopes of qualifying for the 77th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
Three qualifying spots, as well as two alternate positions, will be up for grabs in the 18-hole stroke play competition.
78 players are set to compete, including numerous players from Western Pennsylvania.
Among that group will be Peters Township student and Sienna College commit Colton Lusk, who two weeks ago impressed at The Country Club of Meadville, finishing in the top qualifying position for the 125th WPGA Amateur Championship.
Lusk will play in a group with Fox Chapel’s Carson Kittsley, a member of the 2025 WPGA Williamson Cup team and a high qualifier for the West Penn Am in the qualifying round held at Greensburg Country Club in early May.
Two more members of the Williamson Cup squad — Ty Hartman and Michael Quallich — will tee off in the same group at 9:30 a.m. at Totteridge.
Reigning WPGA Boys champion Aaron Didjunas is set to compete at 10 a.m.
The first group is set to tee off at 8 a.m. with the final trio to hit the course at 12:10 p.m.
A year ago, Nick Turowski dominated his way through qualifying at Quicksilver Golf Club, shooting 7-under to appear in his first and only U.S. Junior Amateur. Turowski is now playing at West Virginia and will compete in U.S. Open Final Qualifying this week.
The 77th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be contested July 21-26 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
The WPGA has been well represented in the U.S. Junior Amateur over the years, including a historic win in the event in 1965, when Jim Masserio became the first public course player to win the prestigious competition.
Some of the current top names in golf have won the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, including Scottie Scheffler (2013), Jordan Speith (2009 and 2011), Will Zalatoris (2014) and Min Woo Lee (2016).
Tiger Woods claimed the competition a record three times. Only he and Speith won the event more than once.
