MIDWAY — Quicksilver Golf Club is set to host Tuesday’s U.S. Open Local Qualifying round, administered by the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association.

Among the players in the field will be New York Rangers forward and East Palestine, Ohio native J.T. Miller.

Miller will join a strong group of professional and amateur players in an effort to be one of the five qualifiers for the Final Qualifying stage of the 125th U.S. Open, to be contested at Oakmont Country Club from June 12-15.

The NHLer will be in a group that also includes Carter Pitcairn, who gained national headlines in 2024 as Pittsburgh native Neal Shipley’s caddie during his Low Amateur finish at the Masters. Shipley has already received an exemption into Final Qualifying.

Among the other players will be professional Palmer Jackson, a Franklin Regional and accomplished Notre Dame grad.

West Virginia grad and current Korn Ferry Tour professional Mark Goetz, former Pittsburgh Penguins minor league hockey player Nick Sorkin and top long-drive competitor and entertainer Justin Moose will play, as well.

Reigning WPGA Junior Champion Nick Turowski, a Penn-Trafford graduate who is currently playing collegiately at West Virginia, is also among the talented field.

In total, 84 players are scheduled to compete at Quicksilver Golf Club, with play beginning from both the first and 10th holes at 8:30 a.m.

U.S. Open qualifying works in two stages, with Local Qualifying funneling qualifiers into 13 Final Qualifying rounds spread throughout the United States, as well as Canada, England and Japan.

From this Local Qualifying, five players will earn spots in Final Qualifying, while two alternate positions will be secured, as well.

This year, the USGA approved a record 10,202 entries for the U.S. Open and its qualifying rounds.
