WPGA announces adjustments to competition formats, Rules
By Josh Rowntree, Director of Communications • March 27, 2025
The Western Pennsylvania Golf Association has announced changes to the formats of two competitions, as well as the adaptation of a rule, in the 2025 season.
First, the WPGA Competition Committee has elected to decrease the number of participants in the 40th WPGA Mid-Amateur Championship field from 78 to 60.
Qualifying rounds will be added for non-exempt players wishing to compete in the Mid-Amateur Championship in 2025. The WPGA will establish a list of exempt players for the Mid-Amateur Championship who will not be required to play in the qualifying round. The 40th WPGA Mid-Amateur Championship will be held September 2 at Green Oaks Country Club.
Qualifying rounds will take place at Totteridge Golf Course on July 1 and at South Hills Country Club on August 12.
In the WPGA Women’s and Senior Women’s Amateur Championships, the Competition Committee elected to change the format from two days of 18-hole play each day to one day of 36 holes in the Women’s Amateur Championship only.
The Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, for players aged 55 and older, will remain an 18-hole competition and will run concurrently with the Women’s Amateur. It will also feature a Super-Senior Division once again this year for players aged 65 and over.
Additionally, the Competition Committee has elected to add a Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in 2025, which will run concurrently with the Women’s and Senior Women’s Championships. The Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship will be available for players aged 25 and over, will also be a 36-hole competition in one day and will be played from its own set of tees.
Registration for WPGA competitions is available here.
Finally, the WPGA will be adopting Model Rule F-5.2: Immovable Obstructions Close to Putting Greens.
