Western Pennsylvania Golf Association unveils 2025 Competition Schedule

PITTSBURGH – The Western Pennsylvania Golf Association (WPGA) enters its 126th season with an exciting Competition Schedule officially set.
The 2025 WPGA Competition Schedule is designed to showcase the diverse talents of the region’s golfers while providing a platform for healthy competition and community engagement around the game.
The schedule features a range of tournaments and competitions, each offering a unique golfing experience at challenging courses that are in interwoven in the fabric of Western Pennsylvania’s rich golf history.
Highlighting the 26-event schedule will be the 125th WPGA Amateur Championship on July 14-15 at historic Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pa.
The West Penn Amateur, which began with the Association’s founding in 1899, is among the longest-running amateur competitions in the country. Past winners include seven USGA Champions.
A year ago, Nathan Piatt conquered the field to win the two-day competition at Chartiers Country Club, shooting an impressive 8-under.
WPGA Amateur Championship qualifying rounds for non-exempt players will occur at Greensburg Country Club (May 8), The Country Club at Meadville (May 21) and at Latrobe Elks Golf Club (June 4).
Other WPGA major competitions on the calendar include:
• The 105th WPGA Junior Championship, set for Lone Pine Country Club in Washington, Pa. The one-day competition will take place on June 9.
• The 122nd WPGA Open Championship — a three-day contest for amateur and professional golfers — which will be held at Sewickley Heights Golf Club from June 16-18.
A year ago, Alec Stopperich pulled off one of the most dramatic comebacks in West Penn Open history, rallying from six strokes down entering the final round to claim his first WPGA major title.
Winners of the Open Championship have gone on to claim 13 USGA National Championships and six Major Championships. The event is 54 holes of stroke play.
Qualifying rounds for the West Penn Open will be held at Montour Heights Country Club (April 30) and Willowbrook Country Club (May 15).
• The 18th WPGA Women’s and 9th Senior Women’s Amateur Championships, which will held at Fox Chapel Golf Club on July 28. The WPGA will add a new tier to the event this year, a Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, which will run concurrently to the other competitions.
Last year, Fox Chapel played host to the top senior women’s golfers in the world at the 6th U.S. Senior Women’s Open.
• The 94th Senior Amateur Championship, to be played at Williams Golf & Country Club in Weirton, W.V. from September 15-16.
In addition to the major championships, the WPGA will also host several other premier competitions.
The 71st Brand and 30th Semple Foursomes Championships will be held on May 19 at Allegheny Country Club. The 32nd Spring Stroke Play Championship is set for the Pittsburgh Field Club on May 27. The 101st Father & Son and 13th Parent & Child Tournaments will take place on June 23 at Diamond Run Golf Club.
The 51st C.R. Miller and 6th WPGA Girls Match Play Invitationals are set for Indiana Country Club from July 7-8. The 15th Senior Four-Ball Championship will take place at Hannastown Golf Club on July 10, while the 65th West Penn Boys Championship will be contested at a site and date to be determined.
On July 25, Shannopin Country Club will host the 76th WPGA Brothers Tournaments. The 84th WPGA Four-Ball Championships is set for Nemacolin Country Club on August 18. And the 36th Jamison Cup Inter-Club Finals will be contested at a site and date to be determined.
The 40th WPGA Mid-Amateur Championship will be held at Green Oaks Country Club on September 2. The WPGA will add qualifying rounds for non-exempt players into the Mid-Amateur Championship in 2025, with more information on sites and dates to come.
The WPGA and Tri-State Section PGA will again square off in the Palmer Cup at Latrobe Country Club on September 4, as the WPGA will look to defend its two-straight titles in the historic event that honors the legend, Arnold Palmer.
Grove City Country Club will once again host the 2nd Women’s Triple Play Tournament on September 8. The 9th WPGA Net Championships will occur on September 23 at Chartiers Country Club.
2025’s competition schedule also features three Senior Series competitions. Hannastown Golf Club will host the first of the series on April 28. Latrobe Country Club will welcome senior golfers on July 2. And the final Senior Series competition is set for Montour Heights Country Club on August 27.
Additionally, the WPGA will field a team of four top junior male players for the Williamson Cup Matches, held at Club Laval Sur Lac Golf Club in Montreal, Canada from August 4-5.
