GREENSBURG — Just over a week ago, Paul Bangor watched as his son, Ian, was handed a WPGA championship trophy. On Tuesday, the elder Bangor picked up some hardware of his own.

Bangor shot a 1-under score of 71, winning the final WPGA Senior Series event of 2024 by two strokes at Totteridge Golf Course.

It’s the second straight year that Bangor claimed the final Senior Series competition — and his fourth win in the Senior Series overall.

“You get acclimated to playing under pressure,” said Bangor. “So I think it helps when you have a bunch of tournaments under your belt. I was close in the first one out at Nemacolin but didn’t get it done there. So this was nice.”

Bangor had plenty of familiarity with Totteridge. He is a former member of the course, which opened in 2001.

“I really like the layout,” he said. “The greens are actually pretty good and were rolling smooth. I know the layout and like the course.”

Ian Bangor won the 39th WPGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Butler Country Club last week, his third win in the event. Paul — a member of the WPGA’s Board of Directors who also played in the Mid-Am — presented Ian with the trophy.

“That’s funny,” said Paul Bangor. “It’s nice to compete. We get to play golf together. My dad plays, my bother and brothers-in-law play. The whole family plays, so it’s nice.”

Bangor next turns his attention to the 93rd WPGA Senior Amateur Championship, to be held at the end of the month at The Club at Nevillewood. He’s hopeful that Tuesday’s performance can provide some momentum heading into the season’s final major event.

“I’ve won a number of these Senior Series events, but they haven’t seemed to get me into contention in the Senior Am. Maybe I’ll turn it around this year, hopefully.”

Rex Pagani and Greg Ferguson Sr. tied for second and Bob Crnjarich placed fourth in the Senior Division.

The Super-Senior Division was claimed by Fred Stern, who won a one-hole playoff over multi-time Senior Series champion Don Erickson and Shaun Lacey. The trio all shot even par scores of 72.

The Net Division was won by Andrew Canter, who shot a Net-adjusted 1-over 73 and was awarded the title via a scorecard playoff over Ronald Wilson.

The WPGA looks forward to the return of the Senior Series in 2025. Stay tuned for more information on dates and locations for next year’s events.
