WPGA Amateurs set to face Tri-State Professionals in Palmer Cup Matches

LATROBE — A September tradition continues Thursday in Latrobe, as top WPGA amateur golfers face Tri-State Section, PGA of America professionals in the Palmer Cup Matches.

Each team, including the WPGA’s Frank B. Fuhrer Jr. Team, consists of ten amateur players and four senior amateurs.

The event, hosted by Latrobe Country Club since 1996, will feature 36 holes of match play with a four-ball competition in the morning followed by individual matches in the afternoon. The senior amateurs in the field will only play one four-ball round, which will take place in the afternoon.

The Frank B.Fuhrer, Jr. Team representing the WPGA will be Jon Pratkanis, Kevin O’Brien, Darin Kowalski, Kevin Fajt, Tanner Johnson, Nathan Piatt, Sean Edgar, Willie Hoover, Amani D’Ambrosio, Austin Lemieux, Rob Stoops, Scott Kemmler, Bob Crnjarich and Arnold Cutrell.

The Tri-State's team will be John Aber, Drew Bohn, Kevin Shields, Alex Aulerich, Devin Gee, Brett Carman, Jack Ramset, Talon Kriebel, Rob McClellan, Kyle Bennett, Dan Braun, Adam Corson, Ed Perrino and Joe Boros.

The four-ball matches will be:

Aber/Bohn vs Pratkanis/O’Brien
Shields/Aulerich vs Kowalski/Fajt
Gee/Carman vs Piatt/Johnson
Ramsett/Kriebel vs Edgar/Hoover
McClellan/Bennett vs D’Ambrosio/Lemieux
Braun/Corson vs Stoops/Kemmler (50+ age group)
Perrino/Boros vs Crnjarich/Cutrell (55+ age group)

A year ago, Team WPGA recaptured the Palmer Cup with a 10-7 victory — the Association’s first win in five years.

The Tri-State professionals are 19-7-2 all-time against the WPGA amateurs in the event, which pays tribute to one of the game’s greatest figures in Arnold Palmer.
