2017 Williamson Cup Team selected

The Western Pennsylvania Golf Association is pleased to announce the Frank B. Fuhrer, Jr. Team that will represent the WPGA in the 54th A. Fred Williamson Cup Matches.
The Pittsburgh Field Club will host the competition for the second time on August 8, and it will be sponsored and conducted by the WPGA.
The event consists of 36 holes college format stroke play with the low three scores for each round counted toward the team’s score.
The 2017 team includes Greensburg’s Mark Goetz, Palmer Jackson of Murrysville, Latrobe’s Brady Pevarnik, and Louis Olsakovsky of Upper St. Clair. All four players have previous Williamson Cup experience and maintain the top 4 positions on the WPGA Junior Honor Roll.
Goetz will compete in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship after claiming medalist honors at Carlisle Country Club. He also finished runner-up in the Junior PGA Championship qualifier at Fox Run Golf Course, finished t-3 in both the West Penn Amateur Championship at Sunnehanna Country Club and West Penn Junior Championship at Hannastown Golf Club, and finished t-8 in the Spring Stroke Play Championship at Nemacolin Country Club.
Jackson won the Pennsylvania Junior Championship at Hershey Country Club and the C.R. Miller Memorial Match Play Invitational at Fox Chapel Golf Club. He was runner-up in the West Penn Junior, finished in the top-10 in the Junior PGA qualifier, and 11th in the Spring Stroke Play.
Pevarnik finished t-5 in the Spring Stroke Play and t-10 in the West Penn Amateur. He also advanced to the semi-finals of the C.R. Miller, finished t-20 in the Pennsylvania Dressler Memorial Championship at Indiana Country Club, and was an alternate in U.S. Open Local Qualifying at Butler Country Club.
Olsakovsky will compete in the Junior PGA after capturing medalist honors in local qualifying. He made it to the finals of the C.R. Miller, and finished fifth in both the West Penn Junior and Spring Stroke Play.
The Williamson Cup Matches have been conducted annually since 1964. The 11 associations competing this year include the Buffalo District Golf Association, Delaware State Golf Association, Golf Association of Ontario, Golf Association of Philadelphia, Golf Quebec, Metropolitan Golf Association, Pennsylvania Golf Association, Rochester District Golf Association, Syracuse District Golf Association, Washington Metropolitan Golf Association, the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association.
The Western Pennsylvania Golf Association joined in 1964 and has competed every year since.
