2002 WPGA President, Richard Falchetti

Richard Falchetti served on the Executive Committee from 1997-2002, and continued to assist the Association in course rating, officiating at WPGA championships and USGA qualifying rounds, and in governance long after his presidency in 2002.

In addition to serving as WPGA President in 2002, Dick also chaired the Handicap Committee. He helped to create and develop the Course Rating Review Committee which he also chaired, and he developed the course rating spread sheets the Association still uses today. He assisted in rating over 100 courses and attended multiple National Course Rating Calibration Seminars. He also attended multiple Rules of Golf workshops.

“Our focus on handicapping and course rating services were developed under Dick’s leadership,” WPGA Executive Director Terry Teasdale said. “And he helped the WPGA conduct championships for many years as an official all over our region. We are a better Association for his service and contributions. He will be missed.”

Mr. Falchetti died on Saturday, April 8, 2017. He was a retired supervisor at West Penn Power Company. He was also a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army having served in the Korean War.

“Dick Falchetti was in a class by himself when it comes to the variety, quantity, and quality of WPGA participation,” said Jeff Rivard, WPGA Executive Director, 1993-2015. “He was skilled in many ways and most reliable. We were so fortunate Dick was a vital member of the WPGA team for twenty years. He made a difference in a low-keyed and professional manner. Dick was highly respected and well liked.”

In addition to his contributions in handicapping, Dick was a skilled and dedicated rules official who helped conduct and officiate in many WPGA championships and USGA qualifying rounds, and also for the Pennsylvania Golf Association. He was a long-time member of Kittanning Country Club where he served as Treasurer.
