The Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Executive Committee has voted to create the WPGA Senior Series to provide additional competitive opportunities for all golfers age 55 and above.
This series will consist of four 18-hole events throughout the season, and will culminate in October with the West Penn Senior Amateur and Super Senior Amateur Championships at Allegheny Country Club in 2017. Contestants in each of these championships need not compete in the WPGA Senior Series to enter the Senior Amateur or Super Senior Amateur.
Each event will consist of Senior and Super Senior divisions that will be run concurrently. Each will identify an overall gross champion in both divisions.
Participants will be competing for the season-long Senior Series Champion. Points will be awarded in both divisions. The Senior Champion (Overall) will be identified as the top point earner aged 55 and above, and the Super Senior Champion will be for competitors aged 65 and above. Players over the age of 65 may choose to compete for overall series champion.
The top-third on the Senior Series points list in both divisions will have preferred acceptance into the Senior Amateur and Super Senior Amateur respectively.
The WPGA Senior Series will be governed by the Outreach Committee as a subset of the WPGA Play Day Program.
