The WPGA Executive Committee is pleased to announce the creation of both the WPGA Net Championship & WPGA Women’s Net Championship. The inaugural events will be conducted in 2017 at South Hills Country Club on Tuesday, September 5.

Both championships will be 18 holes of Net Stableford Stroke Play. All players must have a valid USGA Handicap Index® to be eligible.

"We're very happy to conduct an individual WPGA competition for golfers not presently eligible to compete in our championships," WPGA Executive Director Terry Teasdale said. "Our championship program is our most visible, and we decided that it was time to provide opportunities for all golfers in our region. These competitions will do just that.”

The WPGA created net divisions in the family events – West Penn Father & Son and West Penn Brothers championships – twenty years ago.

Three flights will be created in each competition. A minimum Handicap Index® of 5.4 will be required for the Net Championship. There is no minimum Handicap Index® for the Women's Net Championship.

"This is good for the game of golf in our region," Dan Johnston, WPGA Handicap Committee Chair, said. "Players of all skill levels will be able to compete on an equitable basis in a competition conducted by the WPGA."

The Western Pennsylvania Golf Association first conducted the West Penn Amateur and West Penn Open championships in 1899, the year of our founding.
