Frank Fuhrer III Collegiate Player of the Year

The Frank Fuhrer III Collegiate Player of the Year Award recognizes outstanding golf performance from a collegiate player from Western Pennsylvania. The Fuhrer Award is named in honor of Frank Fuhrer, III. Now a businessman in Pittsburgh, Mr. Fuhrer's accomplishments on the golf course include being named All-American and All ACC at the University of Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill from 1979-81, winning the 1981 Western Amateur, being named to the 1981 Walker Cup team and winning 11 Western Pennsylvania Golf Association championships. Mr. Fuhrer was the #2 ranked amateur in the United States in 1981 and is one of the leading supporters of the WPGA.

Previous recipients of the award include Mike VanSickle, Justin Smith, Rachael Rohanna and Robert Rohanna, who all won two times or more during their college careers. Justin Smith was part of the 2002 University of Minnesota NCAA National Championship team, and Mike VanSickle was awarded the 2009 Byron Nelson Award.
